Belly dancing my way throughout pregnancy!

Long gone is the time at which pregnant women were told to rest. Nowadays, expecting moms are advised to stay active and try to keep fit. As a new prego myself, I’ve been taking this advice to heart. I try to walk daily, I still go to the gym (only once or twice a week I have to confess!), and I try to eat as healthy as my growing appetite allows.
I, however, used to think that I would have to give up my favorite activity, belly dance, for the next 9 months, thinking that all that belly and hip twisting would harm my baby, that is until my doctor gave me the green light and told me: please do, as long as it feels comfortable to you.
Apparently, some belly dance sequences are a wonderful exercise to facilitate birth as they help moms-to-be keep somehow of a flexibility and strengthen their lower muscles. I also heard some moms say that belly dance has helped them sooth back pains and leg cramps, while some used the slower motions as an alternative to yoga, as a mean to relaxation and breathing improvement.
So this morning, I gave it my first try, and I surprised to feel really comfortable doing it. I had expected belly and back aches, but NADA! On the opposite, I felt much energized as I could feel myself pumping fast. Dancing to the music made me for a little while forget about my growing belly and my forever aching feet.
Some pregnant women dance their way to the delivery room, while others stop at five, six or eight months. I think I am just going to trust my body and dance as long as my body permits.
